Carlow is set to receive nearly €1 million in targeted community support over the next two years, thanks to a new fund that is supporting communities across the country who have welcomed and are hosting Ukrainian families. The Community Recognition Fund will see a total of €50 million allocated to these communities, with Carlow receiving €937,967 to support sports clubs, community organizations, schools, transport infrastructure, and local amenities and events.

Green Party TD for Carlow Kilkenny, Malcolm Noonan, has praised this new funding stream for the county, saying, “the people of Carlow have opened their homes and their communities to the Ukrainian people in their time of need, and it is fantastic that this generosity is being supported by the government in a very targeted way.”

The local area representative in Bagenalstown, Liam O’Brien, also welcomed the funding announcement, saying that it will bring real, tangible improvements to the facilities and local amenities that are used and enjoyed by members of the community.

The funding will support a range of projects, including the refurbishment of local sports clubs and facilities, the upgrading of community facilities, the purchase of equipment for local groups, and the enhancement of school or parish facilities that are open to the wider community after hours or on weekends. Ultimately, the projects that will be supported by this fund will benefit all members of the community, who can develop projects that identify and address local need
